ETH high-side switching

When the load you intend to switch is inductive a high side switch might be a better choice than a traditional relay. 

When an inductive load is turned off the collapsing magnetic field creates high energy voltage spikes that can damage relay contacts, and even get coupled into the low voltage areas on circuitry causing erratic behaviour.

Using a high side switch increases reliability by safely disipating these spikes, protecting the low voltage areas of the circuit.
